Flowers For Kids
This is a fun, interactive class, full of questions to get the children excited and involved. They come up with the answers; this is not a dry lecture. The class is divided into three parts: growing flowers, how to treat flowers, and how to make a bouquet. As children file into class, they are given two fragrant bouquets to pass around. They are invited to admire, feel, and smell them.

Part 1 Introduction/Growing Flowers

The first component of the class is a general introduction to flowers, flower growing, and the cultural uses of flowers. The students learn about different types of flowers, including how and where they are grown. We discuss various ways people use flowers and the emotions evoked when giving or receiving flowers.

Part 2 Caring for cut flowers: Why cut flowers and kids both love lemonade

Children learn how to make their cut flowers last. We teach flower care basics and show how to make flower food using common ingredients such as sugar and lemon. Children also receive sachets of flower food.

Part 3 Making a Bouquet

The children learn the basics of floral arrangement during the Flowers for Kids presentation. We describe the difference between fillers, lines, focals, and greens, while showing examples of each. At the end of the presentation, every student has the opportunity to make a beautiful bouquet to bring home.
